Brothers and Sisters,

Going Home with a Lady?

What an incredible worship gathering this past Sunday as we continue to become a wiser people who embody Christlikeness in all areas of life. The most staggering challenge and encouragement from Sunday was that if we seek wisdom, we ultimately find God; therefore, if we find God, we gain wisdom! There is an unique dynamic at play that we are called to seek wisdom precisely because “The Lord gives wisdom” (Proverbs 2:6). Our seeking is based upon his willingness to give!  Perhaps this is why James wrote, “If anyone who lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). Lady Wisdom has set the better table (Proverbs 9:1-6), so don’t let Woman Folly draw you away with lesser pseudo-pleasures (Proverbs 9:13-18).  Go home with Lady Wisdom!

Elder and Deacon Training

One of our distinctives as a church is that we would be a “Bible-believing” church family.  As a result, COM has undergone important enhancements over the past year driven by a deep desire to become more faithful to God’s directions for church.  One of those changes was the adoption of a congregationally-governed, elder-led, deacon-served structure.  Currently candidates for both Elder and Deacon are attending weekly training classes.  Please continue to be in prayer for these dear brothers and sisters considering potential calls from God to become Elders and Deacons.

Guest Reception

New to COM?  We have a desire to be so aware of God’s love for us that we cannot help but love people (Mark 6:34). A guest reception will be held this Sunday, Jan 31st, in the east wing of the Auditorium for prospective members and others curious about life here at Church on Mill. Please take some time to mingle around during the worship gathering greeting new people and making them aware of this opportunity.  Whether you have 10 minutes or an hour pop in, grab some food, and say hi.

TGCAZ Women’s Conference with Nancy Guthrie

According to Titus 2 one bedrock of the church’s health is its members investment into mentoring and discipling each other: men training men and women training women. Not to say there is no effective training across gender but there is great value in young women being mentored by wise older women. We are deeply committed to creating a culture of personal discipleship!  Encourage the ladies in our family to (1) consider attending a great upcoming Gospel Coalition Arizona conference to be encouraged themselves and (2) consider inviting a young lady, or simply someone newer to Christianity, who they can continue to invest in long after the conference.  Let your GC leader or a staff member know if cost would prohibit you from attending.

For His Glory,

Bryan Jerry
