Dear Church Family,
Last Sunday
In our day and age, we are more prone to associate God with love, tenderness, and ‘grandfatherliness’ than we are to associate him with power, holiness, and even violence. We have no categories for Moses’s declaration that “the Lord is a man of war” (Exod. 15:3). Last week we saw from 1 Samuel 5:1-7:2 that God is a warrior…and that is good news. It’s good news because there are rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, spiritual forces of evil, and a devil who prowls around looking for someone to devour. They intend to do us harm, primarily by lying to us about God’s word. We need a warrior God. A God who is stronger than the one who is in the world. The cross was nothing less than warfare, and the resurrection tells us who won the victory. Christian, be thankful for your warrior God!
Disciple Makers Intensive
Don’t forget! This Saturday is our Disciple Makers Intensive, and we have the privilege of hearing Drs. John Meade and Peter Gurry address some of the most crucial questions of our age: can we trust the Bible? Why, and where did it come from? Join us on April 6th from 8:30 – 12:00 in the church auditorium. This event is open to all—come with a friend and a question!
Your brother in Christ,
Phil Hoshiwara
