Last Sunday
We are three weeks into our series, Jesus on Church. So far we’ve seen from the gospel of Matthew that the church is a distinct people with kingdom values who rightly confess the name of Jesus. Last week, we considered the mission of the church. What marching orders did Jesus give his followers? “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matt. 28:19-20). What a weighty responsibility! The scope of our mission is daunting. But, if you feel overwhelmed, keep these three things in mind:
1) We don’t do this work alone. It is the mission of the whole church;
2) We have been commissioned by the one who has all authority in heaven and earth (v. 18);
3) Jesus is with us to the end of the age (v. 20).
So, church, let’s press on in our mission–we have every reason to do so with confidence!
Gospel Communities Update
Are you a part of a gospel community? Now is the perfect time to join! GC’s are small groups of people meeting in homes throughout the week to study God’s word and dig deeper into each other’s lives. Each GC also has a special focus on some aspect of mission. To learn more about the different focuses and locations of the GC’s, click here.
